Well, actually the French are up in arms about the "hegemony" of English language around the world. Thisis not new - in fact I think the French government has an agency whose job is to protect the purity of the language. The current problem stems from a European song contest called "Eurovision." Artists from around Europe submit songs to represent their countries for a contest taking place in Belgrade, Serbia this year. This contest is a really big deal and has been around since 1956. What has the French upset is their entry is sung in English - apparently all except 2 lines are in English.
I think the French have a point here.
