There's No Friday in Italy

Search for your ancestors

According to the Associated Press, an Italian judge ruled that a couple, whose son was born in September of 2006, can't name him Venerdi - the Italian word for  Friday.  The parents said they just liked the name, but the judge ruled that the boy would be would be the focus of teasing for being named after a character in Robinson Crusoe.  Apparently local city governments are required by law to report unusual names for judicial consideration.  Appeals court judges agreed and wrote "that naming somebody Friday would bar him from serene interpersonal relationships and would turn the boy into the laughing stock of his group."  To top this interesting story off, the appeals court judges "ordered the boy to be named Gregorio after the saint on whose day he was born."  I think the parents need to look a little further for unusual names...I did a quick search on Ancestry for "Friday" and it seems a lot of other people had the same idea.
